“Flame” is an emotional and moving 2d platformer game that aimed to draw in players through a carefully crafted and emotional storyline. Making use of an organic and natural color palette inspired by fire and ice, Flame enhances the player’s emotional experience by using these colors to evoke emotion and spark their excitement of the wild adventures, beautiful scenery, and interesting quests still to come.
In the creation of “Flame”, our brief included creating a 2D platformer game franchise with new innovative game goals and objectives as well as hero and enemy character designs, collectibles, puzzles, environment design and character sprite sheets for main movements. The end goal was to deliver one playable continuous scrolling platformer game level with UI elements (title screen, main menu and HUD - Heads Up Display design).
Flame, is a “powerful” little fire crystal who’s life source is a infinite burning tree powered by a life crystal. Her quest begin in a race agains time to find her life crystal which was stolen by the ice queen before it's too late. Her weaknesses are her very own “Tree of Life”, for once it stops burning she ceases to exist. Other weaknesses include the elements such as earth, water and ice however she does gain extra abilities from wind and fire. She collects fire leafs which will help reignite her “Tree of Life” in the end. She can also consume fire crystal fragments to generate health and power up. She has the ability to scorch enemies with fire and create a fire tornado on demand. Flame is also the only one able to defeat the ice Queen.
Hail Storm a level one minion of the ice queen is sent in armies to stop flame from finding her life crystal. Hail Storm is easily defeated and relies on brute force rather than strategic attacks and often ends up being the cause of it’s own death. He can be found on the lower levels of the game and attacks by means of scratching and kicking.
Yeti a more complex and dangerous enemy considered as the ice queen’s fire power is sent to find Flame and bring her back to the ice queen, dead or alive. Yeti requires more strategy and attack mechanisms to be defeated. His damadge count is higher than Icecube’s. He can be found patrolling certain parameters of the map and attacks through a lethal bite.
